And in fact, some people may find Valkyria Chronicles' more realistic art style to be more appealing than the whimsical approach taken by Ni no Kuni or Dragon Quest VIII. More great cel-shading, but what do you expect from games based on anime? Valkyria Chronicles might not match up to Ni no Kuni in terms of visual splendor, but it's certainly no slouch. Even if you're not much of a fighting game fan, they're at least worth oggling on Youtube. Like all Arc System Works fighters, Persona 4 Arena is just fun to look at in general, featuring a really active style that meshes well with the genre. The backgrounds aren't as active as some of what you will find in Street Fighter IV, but they make up for it in detail and variety, borrowing a number of locations from the RPG while introducing a few of its own. Relying on sprites rather than cel-shading techniques, Persona 4 Arena looks incredibly sharp, with a UI that is very much in keeping with the aesthetic of the original series. Arc System Works is known for good-looking anime fighters like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, but they really outdid themselves in adapting the world of Persona 4 for the fighting game genre. Persona 4 Arena, however, is a legitimately great looking anime fighting game - certainly the best-looking of its kind. But Persona 4's graphics have always been more functional than pretty, opting to focus on style and substance rather than pure flash. It's tempting to pick Persona 4 Golden here, since it really is a great looking game on the Vita. Shame there aren't more games like it (sorry, Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage doesn't really count). With so many anime-style games hewing to one particular look, it's kind of nice to see an anime game that evokes the feel of Shonen Jump circa the mid-80s. It's all in good fun and more importantly, it's unique. In keeping with that tradition, Asura's Wrath has its share of attacks capable of knocking Earth off its axis and swords that are 300,000 miles long. The visual style is reminiscent of the old Fist of the North Star anime, even featuring a god that can punch at high speeds with what looks like a dozen or more arms. But that doesn't diminish the fact that it's still fun as hell to look at. Asura's WrathĪlright, one thing that should be made clear from the very beginning - Asura's Wrath is not what one would call a "good game." It actually has more in common with the old FMV games of the 90s than anything, relying heavily on quicktime events and lengthy cutscenes to get its points across. We shall see for ourselves whenever it's released in the U.S.

Interestingly, it was recently released in Japan for mobile devices a poor replacement for a full HD upgrade, perhaps, but it ought to look decent on the iPad. If there's any game that's really crying out for an HD remake though, this would definitely be it.
ANIME GAMES FOR PS4 PS2
Dragon Quest VIII is nearly a decade old now, but it still looks quite good for a PS2 game, even when played on a high-definition television. Monsters like the Slime in particular really stand out - all of them brimming with life and personality, despite being little more than cannon fodder. Yes, it's true that Akira Toriyama's art can be a bit of an acquired taste - particularly if you're not a big Dragon Ball fan - but there's no denying that it's at least interesting to look at. Dragon Quest VIII was the proto-Ni no Kuni - another JRPG with outstanding cel-shading and unique art. As long as we're talking about on Level-5, it's certainly worth mentioning one of the best-looking games on the PlayStation 2.
